The Book Thief, Saturday June 28 2014

This week I started reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, it was a little bit weird at first realizing that it is narrated by "death" but ended up being an absolute great introduction! Starting out in the prologue, in bold letters was "HERE IS A SMALL FACT..... You are going to die." If the goal was to capture the readers attention, it was achieved with me! In the little bit of the book that i have read so far, the author seems to be very descriptive and uses a lot of metaphors. After our last class I have been thinking about how I would draw pictures of things that I hear in everyday life, and the same goes for the narrator in this book.... How do I picture death? Is it just the typical image that most TV shows portray as a black robed, faceless being?..... well one thing is for sure, I don't picture it being a good writer! From what I have gathered so far death seems to run into Liesel Meminger-AKA The Book Thief- on more then one occasion and she is not whom's soul that death was sent for. Death also seems to hate survivors, maybe because he gets his rocks off by walking away with the soul's of the lifeless. The book seems to be pretty good to me so far, but I am only into it a small amount.

  1. The way this story is set up is very interesting -- and so is the book. How does it affect you as a reader to encounter Death as a character? What do you expect to happen?

    Good post!
